Artist Statement
Naomi Even-Aberle is an interdisciplinary artist who delves deeply into the intersection of sports, gender, and societal structures, using performance, photography, and video installation to engage viewers in complex conversations about power, identity, and physicality.
Drawing on their experiences as an athlete, their work highlights how athletics can serve as a tool for social critique, challenging societal norms and sparking conversations about gender and power dynamics. Tapping into the intense physical and emotional discipline found in sports as a means of interrogating larger social frameworks, Even-Aberle questions the traditional binaries of strength and vulnerability, control and submission, often associated with gender roles.
They hold a B.A. in Fine Art from Northern State University; an MFA in Visual Arts from Vermont College of Fine Arts; and a Postgraduate certificate in Non-profit Governance from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Social Policy and Practice.
